Are you committing any of these 5 skin sins?

If you’re reading this, it’s not too late to go through your skincare cabinet… I can help!

Talking to you guys in our virtual consults is the highlight of my day. Every time I connect with a new client, I'm reminded of why I started. I see a piece of myself in each of you. I understand the frustration, confusion and insecurity that can come with skincare. There’s so much out there, and it can feel daunting!

My clients walk me through their routine, lifestyle, concerns, diet, sleep, stressors, pain points, skin history, health and daily habits. We go in depth and take our time. If we can identify your triggers, we can get closer to our goals!

And sometimes, it’s the small habits that add up creating the biggest holes in your routine. I recently posted “Mistakes My Clients Make” on my Youtube, specifically talking about the common mistakes I notice in treating the skin. Here are 5 I often see:

+ Lack of consistency.

It could be skipping cleanses, using random products frequently, or missing structure and intention. This is where I can help! We have two opportunities to improve your skin: morning and night. Your skin needs consistency to see the changes you desire.

+ Not the cleansing balms!

Hey, if they work for you, I'm happy. But let me ask you this: Is it really working for you? In 5/5 people I've seen using them, we notice clogged pores, breakout and overall dullness from improper cleansing. In general, I disagree with most people using a lot of oils, and feel if used they should go LAST in the routine.

+ Following a skincare blogger's advice.

With so much content out there, I want you to remember: If someone is speaking from their personal experience, it probably is of no significance to you. Plus, they’re probably getting paid, or benefit from making you a recommendation in some way. Professionals go to school to be able to make recommendations for all skin, not just their own! Personal testimonials about a product can set an unfair expectation when someone has bought everything they see on TikTok, but they haven’t reached the same results. A customized, professional routine is the best way to save time, money and your skin. In working with an esthetician and learning about your skin, you’ll gain valuable insight you can take with you for life… so worth it!

+ Ignoring the eyes, lips, hands and neck.

They may not seem like the prime real estate, but these areas still deserve attention. There are some of the most delicate areas on your body, and they receive some of the most sun exposure + are vulnerable to a lot of movement (think looking down at your phone or laptop, or the many expressions you make throughout the day.) These areas all deserve attention in the form of cleansing, hydration, exfoliation, treatment AND sun protection.

+ No SPF!

The sun is essential for every living thing on the earth, but it is also the number one contributor to aging. If an SPF’s texture, whitecast or heaviness is stopping you from wearing it, you have to try my fav. While you may not always catch a tan or a burn, the deeper damage happens from UVA rays (the aging rays that are not always visible.) Say it with me: We have to stop romanticizing the sun.

You already known the sun ages you and can cause skin cancer, but would you wear spf if I told you the sun can worsen your acne, melasma, dryness, dehydration, sensitivity, or your rosacea? Longterm sun exposure can actually worsen underlying inflammation, which can exacerbate these conditions, spread skin cells apart, leave your barrier more prone to irritation + prolong the healing process. Not cool when we’re after those results! Make it part of your morning and wear it every day… Rain, shine, indoor or outdoor. If you do step outside for an extended period or spend any part of the day driving, pack an SPF for on the go + reapply every 2 hours. Just think of it as protecting your investment.

Do any of these apply? You know where to find me!
