The acne (management) formula

Here’s my cute client Anjelica who struggled with mascne. We followed the acne formula to clear her right up!

While there is no cure for acne (Accutane included), acne can be successfully managed. Acne is a disease of the skin for which there is no known cure. Acne develops when sebum — an oily substance that lubricates your hair and skin — and dead skin cells get trapped in our hair follicles. This bacteria buildup can trigger inflammation and infection resulting in more severe inflamed acne (often with a noticeable redness around the infection.)

Acne can be classified under 4 types:

1) Whiteheads.

2) Blackheads.

3) Papules.

4) Pustules.

5) Nodules.

6) Cysts.

And 2 subtypes: Inflamed and non-inflamed acne. Your inflamed pimples and pustules are considered to be symptoms of acne vulgaris (the most common form of acne).

Non-inflamed breakouts would be considered comedonal acne— often bumpy skin, blackheads, and whiteheads. Comedonal acne occurs when a hair follicle is blocked by sebum (a waxy skin oil) and dead skin cells.

To manage acne successfully, it’s important to seek professional help, practice consistency and use the right products with the right frequency. Most of the time more severe grades 3-4 of acne need to be treated by a Dermatologist. As an esthetician, I am still able to help treat these grades of acne, and can work hand in hand with a dermatologist to ensure all your bases are covered.

I recommend ensuring you have these 5 crucial components to your acne management routine! (PS I can help you make a plan!)

+ Hydration (water based topicals such as aloe, hyaluronic acid, glycerin.)

+ Calming (anti-inflammatory ingredients such as salicylic acid, fulvic acid, green tea, allantoin, chamomile.)

+ Oil Control (salicylic acid, sulfur, kaolin + bentonite clay, fulvic acid)

+ Exfoliation (lactic acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, malic acid, mandelic acid, retinol, enzymes, spherical scrubs)

+ Bacteria Control (fulvic acid, benzoyl peroxide, oxygen, tea tree.)

If you’re struggling with acne- just know.. It gets better! Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States. 85 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24 experience at least minor acne at some point. While it can feel like the worst thing to happen to you, it’s actually one of the most normal.

Smoother skin ahead :)

Signed,

Esty Tess
