Acne vacay ‘no fly’ list

Treating your acne does not come with a manual so how would you know unless your esty told you? ⬇️

• TANNING ☀️ you don’t have to stop your exfoliants and retinoids on vacay, but bear in mind more exfoliation means your skin is a lot more vulnerable to the sun. While you may have gotten away with infrequent burns before, once you’re in a professional regimen for acne (or any concern really) your threshold for sun damage is tiny! Unfortunately laying out + acne + acne topicals never ends well!

• SPF 🧴 similar to the above, don’t forget the SPF! This can’t be overstated. It only takes a few minutes of unprotected exposure to wipe away months of skin progress. PROTECT THE GOLD, protect your investment!

professional sunscreens are generally safe for acne prone skin, so pack what you know works for you versus picking one up that could be congestive. (Ps— Water resistant usually means not acne friendly!)

• MOISTURIZER 🧳 if I had a nickel for every time a client ran out of moisturizer before trip I’d be rich! since much changes during travel, bring what works for you and avoid spending money on something that may not!

• WAXING 🔥 while some can tolerate facial waxing, I generally recommend threading or tweeze appointments for those who are prone to acne. Not only is it less risk of overexfoliation, but waxing is contraindicated with a retinol or same day exfoliation (which is generally necessary for an acne condition.)

• SAUNAS 🧖‍♀️ while using a sauna once on a trip may not be the end
of the world, I generally recommend anyone with acne, pigment, or rosacea concerns stay away from saunas or steam rooms that promote heat, inflammation and bacteria.

• POOLS 🏊‍♀️ avoid chlorinated pools if acne prone as the alkaline pH and strong chemicals can tend to promote acne and irritation. Instead, apply an occlusive like @glymedplusCell Balm to create a sealant, or, dip in the ocean or salt water pool, which some medical professionals claim may benefit acne.

Last but not least, don’t let your skin control your vacay! Do your best, and know relaxation is one of the most beneficial treatments there is.
